Ways To Get A Better Nights Sleep

There are lots of things that can contribute to not getting the best nights sleep, but in this post i'll share with you the little improvements I've made which definitely have helped me! Obviously, if you know you aren't getting a good nights sleep because you are worried or stressed about something, then these tips aren't going to magically cure you and I would urge you to talk to someone to take your mind off it, or do something that can help you. And of course, if you wake up at 4 am because of your neighbour's dog is barking and howling (I know for me this can happen quite regularly, especially on nights before exams), then these tips aren't going to benefit you to the extent of shutting your neighbour's dog up. But, on a more positive note! These tips can definitely help if there are minor things that are stopping you from achieving the highest level of snuggly slumber! Definitely keep reading!!!

Read read read! There is nothing better than getting stuck into a good book to help you get the rest you need. For ages I have read books online because it was easier, and cheaper until a friend lent me a couple to read before I start college and holy moly! I don't think I've ever dropped off quicker in my life. It's strange how vast the difference is between the LED blue light of your phone and the calming serene yellow light of a bedside lamp. I suggest you get cosy, grab a hot beverage and start flipping those pages. And if you are like me and cant get off your phone, perhaps go on your phone until you get in bed, then set aside 20-30 minutes where you read only and you'll be off in a wink.

Sleep in a bed with covers that you've styled, bought and love! I had the opportunity to redecorate my room this summer so I made sure my bed looked inviting and snuggly! Grey and yellow are slowly becoming my favourite colours so I wanted to fill my room and bed with colours  I like and enjoy seeing everyday. By buying my covers and accessories I now love my bed even more because I know that I worked hard to earn the money I used and feel fulfilment in knowing that I put the ensemble together!

Establish a routine or a couple of things you can do every evening before you go to bed. The brain will actually recognise this after a couple days and start it's shut down process while you do them. They could be, washing your face, cleaning your teeth and putting cosy socks on. Or you might make a hot beverage, give your room a little tidy and start reading your book. What ever they are, if you do them at the same time consistently everyday. Your brain should understand the process of " yes i'm going to go to bed soon because we are doing this" I have definitely found that it's harder to get to sleep if I've done something different that evening, it's like my brain hasn't had a chance to wind down and I would get in bed and think about anything and everything.

Isn't there a saying that's like, "tidy room, tidy mind"? because I definitely believe it. Even if you just tidy your bedside table, for me at least, it makes me a lot more calm and at peace. Plus if you do a little tidying or cleaning every day then you wont have a big job to tackle later. Even if you shove everything into a drawer (i.e definitely me) it just adds to the spa like serenity of your room before you catch them zzzzz's.

Black out blinds or curtains!! You are never gonna get a good nights sleep if you are woken up at 5 am in the morning with the sun arrogantly dancing it's way into your room. I've dealt with the sun, he's not a polite man so trust me he's not going to go away if you ask him. And, if you have blinds as well as curtains, don't forget to draw them. There is nothing worse than kicking yourself at your own stupidity at 5 am.

That's it peeps! I really hope this  is useful to you, if not I hope you enjoyed the pics! Are there any tip's that i've missed (I'm sure there are), write them in the comments so we can all get a better nights sleep! All the best.
